The act of breathing is something almost everyone takes for granted. When you really ponder this simple act though, you actually realize it’s truly remarkable that you and I are sitting here, breathing. Imagine, in order for you, one singular person to be able to inhale and exhale, a long list of things need to be present, frankly it’s a miracle. Firstly, out of the billions and billions of planets in the universe, our planet must have formed with an atmosphere. Furthermore, it had to have been abundant with oxygen and carbon dioxide. Following that, the perfect set of circumstances must take place so that life can come into existence. That life has to somehow become plants, which then cause the carbon cycle on our planet, ensuring there is sufficient oxygen left. That life has to once again somehow evolve into humans, which is where we come into the equation. We must’ve somehow developed lungs and a complex respiratory system just so we could breathe. Even after all that, that’s not all, every time we breathe, our muscles contract, all our different systems have to work in tandem.
All that, just so we can breathe.
